I received my to-do list for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday from my wife and I grinned,
because there was only one sentence on the agenda for me. Barbecue two slabs. No problem.
I would not dare to either complain or volunteer for more tasks. In years past, when we were
hosting a blended family event for the holiday, my list read like the Magna Carta. In addition to
barbecuing, it might include making stuffed mushrooms, chicken arancini, and maybe a couple
of more dishes. I’d also have to do any household chore she might think of and perform those
duties without flinching and with a smile.
Since I have only one task, maybe I’ll have the time to reflect on the many things I’m thankful
for, without wasting time on lamentations. Overall, it’s been a good year, as my world continues
to expand. The creation of The Bumbershoots Writers Society, a book release, two audiobooks
under my belt, five new countries added to my bucket list, new creative opportunities, and the
love and support of family and friends. Focus on the good stuff and be thankful you’re here to
enjoy it.
Happy Thanksgiving.
