Podcasts—The Next Thing

I’m usually slow to follow trends, and sometimes I’m hesitant about trying new mediums. For example, take social media. It took me a while to get on FB, and it’s my go-to, even though Instagram is easy and TikTok offers an awful lot of possibilities. It just takes me a bit to get around to stuff, that’s all.

So when it comes to podcasts, I’m way behind the crowd. I kept meaning to check out different ones, but you know how good intentions work. Anyhow, a few months ago, I tuned in to one called ‘Ten Thousand Books and More’ because an author and person I admire, Ruth Weeks, was being interviewed. I liked how comfortable the hostess made it, and I followed the page on social media.

I was connected to the hostess by honorary Auntie Schyrlet Cameron, and we scheduled an interview. Of course I was a bit nervous, but within minutes of the podcast starting, I was completely at ease with Lauren Wirth, the person behind the podcast. Three hours later, when it ended, I was filled with exhilaration. I’d laughed, commiserated, shared lots about myself, swapped ideas, and made a new friend. I can see me appearing on her show again and again. Check it out.

My brothers and me have talked about doing a podcast together, especially since our wives collectively believe it’s a great idea. Well, they thought of it. We’re going to dip our toes in and see how comfortable the waters are. If we can swim in it, we’re going to go for it, as a group, and for solo missions. That’s where most group dynamics go left, because artists don’t give each other the chance to pursue other interests. Sorry, I made a left turn there.

Yeah, podcasts are my next thing, and I’ll continue to hone my crafts as a writer, voice-over artist, audiobook producer, and publisher. I just need to create enough space and time. Easy.
